This book due to the existence of a battery diary is about the 16th Battery Southern Divison R.G.A. converted into a Heavy Battery at the beginning of the war, and in which my Grandfather, Henry Powell, served as a Gunner.
He could not been prepared for the coming events.
The extremes of temperatures -very hot by day and often freezing at night,
the dust and worse of all -typhoid.
Prepared or not, a boy set off to war, and a man returned.
This is his story in 30,000 words, 30 photos and 10 original maps.
