In Memory of
Harry Walter Jassby

Died in the vicinty of Fairlop Aerodrome on 6 November 1918

2nd Lt. Harry Walter Jassby 2nd Lieutenent Royal Air Force of 54 Training Depot Station (TDS) died Wednesday 6 November 1918 aged 22, only 5 days before the end of the War.
Harry, the son of Mr & Mrs M Jassby of 4143 Oxford Avenue Montreal, Canada, is buried in St Peters Churchyard, Aldborough Hatch.

His Epitaph reads:

In life he flew the azure sky. In death he flew to heaven high.

In keeping with Jewish tradition, the stones placed on the gravestone signify that the grave has been visited, possibly by a relative.

The last fatal wartime casualty of 54 TDS at Fairlop Aerodrome, it is understood that Harry Jassby crashed to his death after his Camel E1422 had been in collision with another machine. Because official records of 54 TDS were destroyed and details of an inquest did not appear in the local press, further information is not available.

This incident is subject to further investigation.
