John Walter Buckstone Flight Lieutenent 79626 603 Squadron Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve
Died Saturday 9 May 1942 age 22.
John, son of Walter and Violet Mary Buckstone of Slough, Buckinghamshire,
husband of Leonie F Buckstone , has no known grave.
His name appears on the Malta Memorial, Malta, Panael 2, Column 1. The Malta Memorial is situated in the area of Floriana,
easily identifed by the Golden Eagle which surmounts a column15 Metre high,
of travertine marble from Tivoli, in the Sabine Hills, near Rome..

Stephen flying Spitfire MkVb P8603 was one of 11 taking part in low Ramrod Operation No. 15 against the Alcohol Distillery at Hesdin, 40 miles south east of Le Touquet.
603 Squadron acted as rear supporting wing to 8 Hurricane Fighter Bombers of 607 Squadron (Hornchurch).

Over Le Touquet the Squadron were attacked by a number of Me1209's and FW 190's after which P/O Falconer, Sgt Bennett and P/O Fawkes were missing.
P/O Falconer and Sgt Bennett were taken POW and P.O Fawkes killed, his Spitfire presumed to have crashed into the sea.
